Option FCD: High Repeatability Production Line Testing for the Defib-5

With Option FCD, the Defib-5 is ready to conduct production line testing. With a 12 second charge time and continuous duty rating, the Defib-5 can test 5 units per minute. Incorporated in Option FCD is the high repeatability autotrigger circuit which fires the Defib-5 when the output is charged to exactly 5000V.

The capacitor bank is also upgraded to a 2.5 million cycle life - about a year of continuous 12 second interval testing, 24 hours a day. Capacitor bank replacement can be done at the factory for a charge of approximately $700.

Three possible uses of Option FCD are described below. Other uses, including waveform capture and energy calculation, could be added as well for a custom test.

  • Stand-alone Mode: This method anticipates the device under test will be ready well in advance of the 12 second charge time of the Defib-5. The Defib-5 is allowed to run open-loop. Whe the 12 second charge time is completed, the autotrigger will fire the pulse as soon as the voltage rises to exactly 5000V. For safety, our external interlock, Option XI, should also be specified when Option FCD is to be used in the stand-alone mode. It should be designed to inhibit the output of the Defib-5 until personnel are clear of the test, and an emergency kill switch should also be used. Please note that if the interlock is activated after the 12 second charge window, the Defib-5 will need to be reset before testing can continue.
  • PLC Control: The Defib-5 can be configured as part of a test fixture under PLC control. When the device under test is ready, the PLC fires the Defib-5 pulse through the Relay-Isolated Interface (Option RI). Since the wait time is not defined and may be longer than 12 seconds, Voltage Hold (Option VH) should also be specified to maintain the 5000V charge until the PLC is ready. If the PLC is not already handling interlock and safety duties, Option XI should also be used to protect operators and provide a kill switch.
  • TestMinder Test Sequence: The Defib-5 is controlled by our TestMinder (Option TMMD) computer control which allows multiple tests and polarity reversals as part of a complete test package to be run on each device. Option VH should also be specified to maintain the 5000V until the operator instructs TestMinder to fire the Defib-5, which may be much longer than 12 seconds. In this scenario, the operator readies the device under test, then manually starts the TestMinder sequence with a mouse click. From there, the test sequence runs automatically. Option XI should be specified to provide interlock control and a kill switch to the setup.
