Select MegaPulse Surge Testers can be fitted with a BNC 1000:1 voltage output for connection to an oscilloscope. The signal can be used for reference viewing of the waveform as delivered to the EUT. The 1000:1 signal is correct within 15% for voltage. It is not correct in the time domain, so the output is for a rough approximation of the waveform and is best for verification that a waveform was delivered to the EUT.
After experience with the 1000:1 output and the DUT, some rough conclusions may be made, such as DUT open or shorted, or it may be used to detect degradation of the DUT over time.
The accuracy of the 1000:1 probe is shown in this link. It shows the accuracy of the 1000:1 BNC output compared to tester output and front panel meter indication for the MegaPulse 1.2x50-12, with output accuracy shown from 400V to 12kV. Other testers will show similar accuracy.
